Construction Equipment Australia (CEA) has recently delivered a new Dynapac SD2550CS Paver and CC2200 8 Tonne Tandem Drum Roller to Nexus Infrastructure. Nexus Infrastructure was awarded the contract to design, construct, operate and maintain the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC), a 41km long heavy vehicle bypass route funded by both the State and Federal governments.
According to Graeme Reid, Major Accounts Manager for CEA, Nexus chose the Dynapac paver for use on the TSRC project because of its capacity to complete both road base pavement requirements and the asphalt placement needs.
“The Dynapac SD2550CS was specified with our high compaction tamping vibrating screed, the V6000TVH. Our screeds are the best in the market with our proven 4 tube system offering the most rigid and stable screed available.”
CEA describes the machinery as simple and fast to assemble when changing working width with no need for stabilizing rods. This flexible working width is retained as the extension parts are hydraulically adjustable. The tamping and vibrating parts as well as the high compaction bar ensure high compaction results before the roller is even on the matt.
“The unique 180 degree operator station providing best in class visibility along with continuous compaction control systems, innovative operator interface with ergonomic placement of controls made the choice an easy one for Nexus,” Reid said.
“We were able to offer the Nexus team fast machine delivery for both the roller and the paver. Nexus will be paving foam bitumen road base and so far, their trials have been successful with good compaction results achieved with the CC2200 8 Tonne Tandem Drum Roller.”
Training was conducted by National Product Manager for CEA Paul Ridgeway and National Technical Manager for CEA Chris Parkin.
“Training was conducted prior to the machines being used, by senior CEA staff with an in-depth knowledge of the machine’s functions, applications and servicing,” Reid said.
The goal of the TSRC is to remove heavy vehicles from Toowoomba’s CBD. When finished, the TSRC will connect the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa in the east to the Gore Highway at Athol in the west via Charlton.
“We are proud to be a part of the TSRC project. By removing heavy commercial vehicles from the CBD, Nexus is improving the safety and productivity of truck drivers and enhancing the liveability for residents of the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley areas,” Reid said.
“Heavy vehicles will have better access to major ports and markets and the Toowoomba community will benefit from a quieter, safer and less congested CBD.”
The TSRC is expected to reduce travel time by up to 40 minutes for heavy vehicles.
